AT AMANDA'S HOUSE
« Previous Main Next »

hi friends.
missed ya.
really i did!
i was thinking on my flight home about the friends i have met through the blog.
i try to explain it to others but somehow i just can't seem to find the right words.
then it came to me ........... they seem to believe in things. they say YES! i am lucky.
i don't know a thing about sewing. i don't know a thing about fabric. i don't know a thing about thread. keeping that in mind, i remember when i mentioned to amanda that i would love her help and instruction on my newest USEFUL BITS series of cards ... it took her less than a moment to say YES.
she welcomed me into her home; into her beautiful studio ... she asked me questions about what i wanted & needed ... we laughed & jeered ... calvin helped ... most of all she just said YES. she didn't doubt. she saw possibilities in my ideas and made them her own. what came out of it were my button cards ... and there is more of the USEFUL BITS series to come in the months ahead. i have no doubt when i go to amanda with my next question she will smile, pat me on the shoulder and just say YES. thank you friend. thank you for believing in me.
glad to be back home.
good tuesday to you, mav

such sweetness here! i agree, it is dificult to explain the warmth of friends met through our creative spaces. YES is just about the best word there is, and to hear it from a friend is one of the best feelings i know. can't wait to see more of your useful things...i missed you too!
p.s. i'll be giving you a ring this week!

e.e. cummings knew what he was talking about, for sure. I grew up with a Mother who always answered "Yes, I don't see why not" and a Father who always said "No, I don't see why." My Mother died when just before I turned 17. I soon learned never to ask my Father for permission. Instead, I would do the thing, and then act surprised when he was angered that I'd done it. I been living my life like that ever since. Don't ask permission, just do the thing, as long as you hurt no one else in the process.
Oh, and Liza sang a song about this, too, on an album she put out in the 70s. "Say Yes!"

Oh I love this, mav - "they seem to believe in things." Yes! I know just what you mean, but until now, I couldn't have put my finger on it. You said it perfectly. xo

Wow. I am new to the whole blogging thing, but that's it. The "yes-ness"... that's why I keep coming back these last four months. It feels so very odd to quietly connect with strangers and yet every day it makes my heart sing. I love the spirit of all these women! Believing is so important to me.
