FAVORITES : START IT OFF ...

hi friends. first off, i am still reading and researching all of the music that was talked about yesterday. WOW! thank you for sharing. i don't think i have ever seen so many musicians/bands i don't know in one place. you should go back to the entry and check out the comments if you have not already. there were too many to organize but i can tell you there are some great recommendations in there. and that settles it ... in april we will have a music week here at p2p! i was thinking about seeing if i could even upload some little bits of songs into my entries. hmmm. i'll think on that. what fun!

today one of my favorite topics -- breakfast.
what is your favorite breakfast food that keeps you happy all morning?

when i say happy here i guess i mean productive. or rather just moving forward with your day. for me i need coffee {2-3 cups} and my favorite breakfast right now consists of fruit + granola and yogurt OR fruit + cereal and rice milk. i am very much into having fresh fruit involvement. this goes in phases for me {and that is what this week is about; our phases right now}. and on the weekends i bag this all together and go for salty! eggs, bacon, fresh bread, cheese ... this kind of thing.

i must say that i have been very inspired by a flickr friend astrid's breakfasts. she really knows how to take time to prepare her food and i am certain that it helps her start her day out 'happy' ... you can see her breakfast shots here. they are gorgeous ... talk about art in the everyday!

for me i like to get up extra early so i have time to have my coffee and prepare my breakfast food at a slow pace. i am sure it doesn't hurt that i work for myself and can decide where i want to take time {however if i have a slow morning i tend to pay for it later by working at night}.

and on the topic of slow mornings {a bit off of food here}, has anyone ever seen the film vertical ray of the sun? i saw this for the first time years ago and own it now. this film is what inspired me to start slowing down in the mornings. the poetry of the shots in the morning; it's glorious stuff friends.

okay, breakfast & posting time is over.
have a great day & tomororw, onward to the weekend!
cheers, mav

What a delicious question! I adore oatmeal and toast in the morning with a nice cup of strong black coffee. Being from the South, every Sunday we walk a block to our favorite brunch location and have grits!

i'm an early bird riser, i love to take my time in the morning because it feels like a delicious secret.

i always wake up very very thirsty? and drink a ton of water in the morning, but don't eat until a fwe hours after getting up for some reason unknown too. haha its funny how i am unaware of my habits until i talk about them. i love organic cereal or toast with honey, and my favorite breakfast is a nice fruit smoothie.

oh yum. Mornings are a bit rough for me--I've never quite adjusted to the *early* start to the day since being a parent. So the food is important to get me up and out of bed happily (really!). I go for tea right away, and then a bit later, some toast with gobs of butter. Even later in the morning, I'll do plain yogurt with homemade granola and fruit. Yum!! It's almost that time now!

ah it’s got to be porridge *every weekday morning*

At the weekend it would involve eggs, bacon, and potato scones!

Me too...Porridge every week day morn (HAS to be Scots fine milled porridge oats made up with water!), with set honey, which melts into a caramelly pool of goodness....plus a cup of Twinings Assam tea with milk!

Weekend (generally on a sunday) bacon, sausage, potato scones, fruit pudding, mushrooms and tomato all fried up :)

If feeling very indulgent, I make a very plain cake of bitter chocolate with orange, and a deliciously damp slice of that with a cup of coffee is just tickety-boo!!

breakfast, well i wish i could say i wake up and make a glorious breakfast but i dont. I hate climbing out from under my warm fluffy duvet. Luckily my son has always liked to sleep in ( 9am, late compared to some kids! ) So we wake up and i make a pot of tea and we have muffins anykind with oatmeal, or smoothies, granola with berries ( i have a rasberry bush in my backyard!! ) and sometimes waffles with berries and real whiped cream.. yum. I love astrids breakfast photos just gorgeous!

black coffee (2 cups is perfect) is the most important part of my morning. on weekdays i usually have cereal, toast, or yogurt. i love navel oranges, too. on weekends, we have our dutch baby ritual or smoothies. saturdays usually involve a walk to our favorite diner for waffles, bacon, and eggs.

i love having breakfast for dinner, too. do you ever do that? we like to have cheese grits, bacon, and biscuits. yum!

Apple cinnamon muffins (self baked preferably) and good Italian coffee. That's my favorite. (But somehow I always have a slice of bread with peanutbutter and a cup of tea instead)

Breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal!! Unfortunately on weekdays I'm always rushing about trying to get out of the house on time. I normally eat either plain yogurt with a bit of fruit and honey mixed in or some cereal. Which is fine, but my favorite favorite favorite breakfast food is eggs. Normally on the weekends we prepare a delicious egg breakfast. I love making scrambled eggs with some fresh dill and crumbled feta cheese. Lately we've been making scrambled egg sandwiches with sauted peppers and onions and some melted swiss on top. YUM!!! I can't wait for Saturday!

Oh and I absolutely love Astrid's breakfast photos. They are so inspiring!

Hmm. well if I can travel 300 miles around the world for breakfast, I7d have to say my favorite breakfast is a stack of buckwheat pancakes and coffee at the Big Sur Inn. All the while sitting next to their wood buring stove and listening to the classical music they sometimes play. I love that place!

Another granola and yogurt girl here! My breakfast every day - even weekends, usually! - is a bowl of Heritage Os cereal with homemade granola smattered on top, stirred together with plain yogurt. Mmmm, mmm! And lately I've been adding a side of stewed prunes. For summer, though, I'll be back to fresh fruit...blueberries, raspberries, a peach or two. Your raspberries look gorgeous, m'dear, and I love that bowl!

A large mug of hot tea with lemon, Stonybrooke yogurt with Bear Naked granola and a banana to start. After perusing e-mail, I have a chunk of Green & Black's dark chocolate with hazelnuts and currants plus a small handful of almonds. Topped off with a tall glass of water and I am set til noon. The weekend brings yogurt and fruit in the form of a smoothie and a slice of Maxim's Blueberry Yogurt cake from: http://chocolateandzucchini.com/

Yogurt--what would we all do without it? If you haven't tried FAGE authentic Greek yogurt, I must warn you that it's addictive! Thick like sour cream, it is heavenly with a dollup of strawberry jam, maybe some granola. Always with an iced tea (it's never really cold here in Houston) Otherwise, it's the remnants of my children's breakfast, which is often grilled cheese or scrambled eggs. I should really take a cue from Mav and Astrid and get up a bit earlier!

Mav, thanks for taking the time to check out my colors. You are so very thoughtful.

prunes
green tea
flax seed toast with crunchy peanut butter, creamed honey, and banana

on weekends when my husband gets crazy in the kitchen: scrambled eggs with the works--mushrooms, onions, cheese, sausage; french toast and mango smoothies
(often this weekend meal gets eaten around noon).

isn't it true that this meal--breakfast--can set the tone of the day? reflecting on the morning foods I love, I am struck by this today: we are blessed to have so many choices, such abundance, such good food!

morning, mav! (in my part of the world at least ;)
I'm enjoying my crispbread with paté and am nowadays drinking tea first thing in the morning followed by a highly cherished caffe latte when I get to the workshop. with a jolt in my stomach I had a flash of sitting outside with my back against the wall drinking my coffee in the sun... oh how i long for spring!!
i totally missed your music post of yesterday, but love all the tips from others! xkarin

hi mav
thank you for continue to inspire and make me think about the little things. i love this image you have posted and found it diffiult to think of a better breakfast. but here goes.

I love the morning coffee ritual - my husband makes the best coffee and we sit and talk for the 5 minutes it takes to drink it - before we have to get up and rush to get ready. I also really love homemade muesli filled with nuts and seeds and cinnamon. and for a treat i enjoy a buttery crusty croissant on the weekends.
