THURSDAY : LOOKING PAST THE LIST

« Previous   Main  Next »

THURSDAY : PEP IN YOUR STEP

hello friends,
as you guessed it i'm still going on about the days of the week. we are now at thursday. this photograph diptych is just how i feel about thursdays. wide open spaces; pressure is off a bit. for me thursday is a day to scrap the list. so i won't get it all done OR hey, look at all i got done! it is when i seem to veer from the list that i end up getting a ton done. so really i find that wednesday & thursday are my most productive days. how about you?

on my mind to do today:
- update inspiration wire with new tearsheets
- print 400 cards {collaboration with natalie}
- walk to the post office & stop at the art store
- 3-4 hours of design work on the computer
- answer a few emails
- finish in time to hit the pub for a glass of something

in other topics, thank you for all of the kind comments about my march card. my only complaint is that i could not get a good close-up photograph of it {i'm going to try again this weekend} but other than that i really feel good about it. i must admit that it is tough for me to use color as i am addicted lately to creams, black, gray, silver, gold, etc. but it was fun to use a chartreuse and yellow ... i had to push myself into color a bit.

speaking of color & using it perfectly ... check out the awesome work of rica takada and kaori kasai. and don't miss micasa's posts on a new book she is sharing lovely images from here & here.

have a great day today!
mav

p.s. funny i post about color and my photographs have none ... see how i shy away from color!

when I shoot print film I never shoot in color and when I paint I am attracted to certain colors - strange what we gravitate toward.
you have a busy day!
these holga shots are really fabulous!

And sometimes the restricted palette is more powerful. You start to pay attention to slightest changes in tone. I like the lingering turquoise shade on the water on the right-side photo.

My most productive days tend to be tuesdays. I've got through the difficulty of starting (monday) but am not yet overwhelmed about how much there is to do during the whole week. Thursdays I am already pretty tired. Or maybe it's just today...

In reality the days of the week don't matter so much since I usually en up doing a lot of work on weekends. Not fun, but that's what you get for being a freelance designer and a full time design student...
I want my weekends back!

For us procrastinators, Thursday is the day that the pressure starts to be put on. I'm thinking, "oh my god, it's Thursday already, where did the days go? And how on earth am I going to be able to finish all of my work by the end of the week???"

Thursday is not a fun day. I tend to play too much on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hello, Mav.
I'm so excited that I found my previous site was linked from your site last summer.

I've also bookmarked your site since I found your letterpress cards at etsy for over a few monthes.( I'm going to join etsy in the near future. I'm preparing for them right now... )
I took a rest for a while because of my family's reasons in Japan and I've just started do making my collage works again recently.

The motif that you made for this month is the one I love!
I don't know why, but I'm often inspired from birds, either.

Anyway, I really appreciated when I found my url in your site!
Thank you (^-^)
*Sorry for my poor English...(>_<)

Mav - I hear you about the freelance designer bit - about not having your weekends free. Having had a few projects over the past few months and working on design after I get off my regular "corporate" job and on the weekends, it really makes me appreciate those saturday afternoons, where i look around my house and think, what do "I" want to do right now and have options other than work available. But I wouldn't trade the moments of design "a-ha" that I get after working a few hours at my kitchen table and having everything come together mysteriously. It's a definite balance though. One I have yet to master!
